Irish Legacy
Through the Union Act, Cornwallis solidified the system in which the native Irish had no rights in their own country. Much like in India, since Cornwallis settled the British in Ireland, and then the British began to exploit Ireland. Ireland had many products that they exported and gave to the British, but the only food that the Irish had was the potatoes. Since he secured Ireland for the British, he contributed to situations like the Irish famine and rebellion. Since the only crop they had to eat was potatoes, when a potato killing blight came, they had no food or income. The fact that a terrorist war continued in Ireland until the Good Friday Accord of 1998 is also due to him because he was the one to bring Ireland into the UK. The ongoing tension between these countries is a result of the union between them.
The modern British flag looks the way that it does because Cornwallis negotiated the Union Act and brought Ireland into the United Kingdom.
The Irish dislike Cornwallis very much, and this is represented in the song "Croppy Boy" by the Clancy Brothers.

The flag below is the Union Jack, which has the cross of Saint George, the vertical and horizontal red lines that represent England, the cross of Saint Andrew, the blue with the white vertical and horizontal lines, and, as of 1801 and the Union Act, the cross of Saint Patrick, the red diagonal lines in an "X" shape.
